Simple Summer Skirt & Sales

I spotted this mint maxi skirt at Ross as I was headed to the register a few weeks ago.  For $11.99, who could resist a trendy splurge?  The lining isn’t the greatest as it creeps up, and the elastic black waistband isn’t exactly the sign of world class craftsmanship, but again, it was $11.99.  I have worn it a couple of times already, both times with a simple black tank tucked in, sandals and then played it up the accessories.  On this particular day I paired it with an old but well loved black tank by Halogen from Nordstrom, chunky gold bracelets, (one vintage, one a gift from hubby on his trip to London) drop earrings by local jeweler Madeleine O’Connell (her jewelry lines Gracious Lupita and Black Poodle can be found at Denver boutique The Perfect Petal and she also made the jewelry for my wedding in 2011 as seen on her website), hair scooped back into a ponytail with a Black Tie holder by local jeweler Lindsay Bloom, and a pair of black gladiator sandals by Matt Bernson that I scooped up for $5 from last year’s Dress for Success Bring Your Own Bag Boutique Sale, (happening again this year on July 27th!!!).  Have you jumped on the mint green band wagon yet?  What has been your best summer buy so far?  In closing, you really MUST go to the Dress for Success sale at the end of this month- it’s crazy good!  A friend also told me that Steve Madden has generously donated a ton of shoes for it!  Get last seasons’ clothing from local boutiques for seriously minimal cash.

25 Weeks: Winter Pastels

February 4, 2013

25 wide shot

This past weekend my hubby threw me a surprise graduation party!  How freakin’ awesome and sweet is he?!  I have NEVER had a surprise party before!  First, he took me out on a wonderful date night beforehand.  A little pre-dinner shopping at Ross, then a lovely meal at Olive Garden.  After dinner we came home, he asked me to flip the light switch and “SURPRISE!”  My family and friends were all in my kitchen!  So FUN!

Ross is ALWAYS worth a look-see folks.  You truly never know what you’ll find in there!  Honestly, I would rather dig around in a dingy thrift shop, but I find that I myself poking around the home and baby sections while hubby shops.  I did manage to find some baby necessities to check off my list:  Munchkin feeding spoons exactly like these, baby washcloths and hooded towels, AND I found a random set of cotton muslin burp cloths by the boutique brand Aden+Anais with pink cupcakes and fairy print!  Tucked behind some bibs and socks towards the floor, I spotted them, the only set!  Normally $22 full price, I paid $11.99- get them here.  On the way out we browsed the pish posh maternity rack, but I found these awesome teal cropped stretchy pants!  They also had the same pair in a fun coral which I may go back for.  At $13.99 and 3 months to go, they are probably worth it.

Always one to wear new clothes immediately, my husband says I am like a little kid, I wore them the very next day!  Actually, ssshhh, I wore this exact same outfit yesterday to watch the Super Bowl at a friend’s house.  I loved the color combo so much, I decided to wear it again today.  A trip to the post office and Barnes and Noble to do some baby prep and fashion reading was excuse enough for me to dress up.  This time,  I added this gorgeous black and white  silk infinity scarf, a graduation gift from my friend Tess Vigil, of 50 Dresses.   She is having a trunk show this Saturday by the way, and perhaps you can get your own scarf then!  Here’s deets on that.

So have you ever been thrown a surprise party?  What did you all end up doing for the Super Bowl?

Editor’s notes:  This is my hair after I wash it at night and sleep on it.  I do not spend a lot of time on my hair.  Hence, scheduled a cut this week.  25 Weeks pregnant means about 6 months along.  Yes, I realize my legs have gained weight.  Yes, that is a sea animal on my blouse.  It was from a Diesel collection from 2007 when i worked there part time.  I did not get the glowing pregnancy skin.  I came across a book I MUST buy called, The Organized Mom.
